Who qualifies

The rule comes from Fla. Stat. § 605.0113[2].

A Florida resident, or a business entity authorized in Florida, whose business address is the registered office. The agent files a written acceptance.

Owners who live in Florida qualify as individuals and can take the registered agent role themselves. The company cannot name itself as its own registered agent. Owners who live outside Florida, and so cannot serve themselves, usually hire a service.

Agent service prices in Florida

Mainstay Filing's Florida registered agent service is $149 a year with no increase at renewal[1]. Papers served on the company are scanned and uploaded the same business day at no fee.

On October 20, 2026 we also read 8 other services' published prices for Florida. First years ran $0 to $249, renewals $48.99 to $249. In Florida, 3 of them raise the price after year one, so the renewal figure is the one to compare.

Where the agent must be

Florida's forms spell it out. The address has to be a Florida street address that matches the agent's business address. P.O. boxes are not accepted. Florida law sets minimum hours of 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. on weekdays.[2]

Because the Florida Division of Corporations publishes this address, owners who use their own put it on the public record.

How to switch agents

The filing is the Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent or Both for Limited Liability Company (Form INHS18), filed with the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations. The fee is $25[3].

  1. Choose the new registered agent and get its consent; it has to qualify under Fla. Stat. § 605.0113.
  2. File the Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent or Both for Limited Liability Company (Form INHS18) with the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations.
  3. Include the $25 filing fee.
  4. Once the Florida Division of Corporations processes it, confirm the company's record shows the new registered agent.

Across the 50 states the median change fee is $15; compared with Florida's $25, 30 states charge less and 11 charge more.

Switching to Mainstay Filing includes the Florida change filing; it submits the form to the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations and charges the $25 state fee at cost[1].
